Alexander Geissler holds the chair of Health Care Management and is academic director of the School of Medicine at the University of St. Gallen. In his primarily empirically driven research, he deals with questions of health economics, health services research and health systems research. The focus is on researching and developing instruments for measuring and controlling the efficiency in health care. This includes components of remuneration and incentive systems, as well as questions of quality measurement, presentation and transparency. Increasingly, he is linking the two research strands to make better statements about the optimal use of scarce resources in the health system. A special feature is his international orientation which is evident in his engagements for supranational organisations such as the World Bank, the EU Commission and national ministries and think tanks.
